The New Student Orientation Guide—your source for all things orientation—is available for download.
Your four-day orientation program begins with Move-In Day and runs through the start of classes. Your days will be filled with opportunities to learn about academic life at Cornell, meet new people, and explore all that the university has to offer.
The prospect of beginning college can be daunting. You may be incredibly excited to come to campus but at the same time you may also feel nervous or unsure about what to expect. Everyone has these mixed emotions and the orientation program is designed to make the transition to Cornell as seamless as possible.
Your Orientation Experience
Orientation at Cornell is unique – most of the programs are planned and run entirely by students dedicated to welcoming you to Cornell. You will be matched with an Orientation Leader (OL) and a small group of fellow new students, all from your college, to guide you through your transition. Look for an email from your OL to your Cornell email address in July.
Families and Orientation
- Family Orientation programming runs Friday, August 19 through Saturday afternoon, August 20.
- A complete schedule of events is available in the New Student Orientation Guide.
- The Family Guide, a resource for Cornell parents, will be mailed to families during the summer.

Because Ithaca is a small community, it is wise to make travel plans early for orientation and other large university events including First-Year Parents' Weekend, October 21-23, 2016. Visit Ithaca provides comprehensive travel and lodging information.
