What's Coming Next

Check out the January Orientation Guide—your source for all things Orientation.

We are very excited to welcome you to the Cornell community! Orientation begins on Thursday, January 18 and runs through Tuesday, January 23; classes begin on Wednesday, January 24.

Orientation offers both required and optional events intended to introduce you to life at Cornell, and to fellow students, staff, and faculty who will help you make the most of your time here. You'll learn about course selection, campus resources that support academic and career goals, tools for maintaining health and well-being, great study spots, campus clubs, some of the best places to relax, and a whole lot more about life on the Hill.

For the most up to date information about orientation, visit the Cornell Orientation pages.

Orientation Highlights

  • Thursday night: First-Night — connect with your OL and celebrate your arrival at Cornell!
  • Friday morning: college information and advising sessions
  • Friday evening through Tuesday: dozens of events to connect you to Cornell

How Does Orientation Work?

Cornell student volunteers have been busy planning for your arrival. They are dedicated to welcoming you to Cornell, and they take the lead on creating fun and informative sessions for new students. All of our volunteers are here for you, and you will meet them at events throughout Orientation. You will also be connected with a small group of students and an Orientation Leader (OL) who are all from your college . Your OL is a great resource for learning about what it's like to be a Cornell student and how to navigate your college.

Students must attend all required Orientation events and you are strongly encouraged to attend optional events sponsored by your college and the university, to prepare you for the semester.

The Orientation Guide will be your guide for all of the university and college events happening during Orientation.

Making the Most of Orientation — and your Time at Cornell

During Orientation, your days will be full of events designed to acclimate you to Cornell. And when classes begin, we encourage to keep exploring. Make sure to connect with your faculty advisor and college advising staff, check out career resources and other campus programs, and talk with students, staff, and faculty to help you discover and develop your interests in and out of the classroom. If you have questions along the way, don't hesitate to ask for help.
